3.5 stars. I found this book less compelling than Carriger's adult series, and I think it comes down to the fact that while in the Parasol Protectorate books the characters are frequently ridiculous, they still have depth. Here, nearly every character felt like a cardboard cutout that would topple over in a strong breeze. The book has its charms, and I am interested to see where the series goes, but overall this one was a little bit disappointing.
