I love this series. I can't believe it hasn't gotten more attention in the YA lit world. The idea of pain as a magical force that can be shifted is marvelous, and Nya is just the sort of headstrong, ingenuous, impulsive, brave, street-smart, flawed protagonist I love.Minor downside (because I'm incapable of reading a book without finding at least one thing to complain about): The "love interest," Danello, seems like more of a best friend + cuddle buddy to me. Which is cool. I like friends and cuddle buddies. But Janice Hardy seems to think there's some sort of romance going on there, and I am just not seeing it at all.The end had my heart breaking in multiple ways for multiple characters while leaving plenty of room to hope for the future, which is just how I like my books to end, especially middle books in series. I'm so excited to read the third (and last?) book.
